A Law too Far

One of the things I like to do is go to opinion polls and make my statement. That desire and habbit one day helped me to find blogger, and to make this site. The rest is history as they say. As for the poll which can be found at the News 14 Carolina web-site the question of 05/03/05 is this.
"Should the state require passengers to wear seatbelts in the back seat of the car?"
This is my retort!
"No! I was brought up in a time when cars did not even have lap belts, it was an option. My mother often drove drunk, and fast and me and my brothers and sister all survived. We do not need this kind of law, the state can make a suggestion but it should always be up to the individual. We'll all will get to die, some die in auto accidents, some by cancer, and a lucky few die in wells when Lassie is taking a break. Let's save some individual rights from their deaths."

To give you an even more current example of why this type of law is crap is this. I own a 1988 Subaru wagon, GL model, 5 on floor, fuel injection, silver-blue in color. I have shoulder belts for the front buckets, and lap belts for the rear.
My neighbor owns a 1989 Subaru wagon, identical in style, with some changes; automatic transmission, maroon in color, automatic front shoulder belts, and "manual shoulder belts for the rear seats." My concern is this if the state passes this kind of law I may be subject to be pulled over by the law by some ingnorant law enforcement official since it may appear that my rear seat occupants are not wearing their seatbelts. And we all know once we are pulled over and prove that we are not guilty, that officer will still take a look at the ID, and run the plate before letting you go. I feel this is just another excuse to pull someone over, for maybe I'm late with my plate, or my inspection, maybe the cop decides I need new tires, whatever. If the law wants to charge you for a minor infraction 9 times out of 10 they will find something.
These are the laws which are a destroyer of our civil rights, just as random road checks are, but that's another topic for another day. There are just too many regulations which restrict my life, thanks to this law I won't be able to die quickly from a brain injury at the age of 45. But perhaps to linger in pain for years with Cancer and die at the age of 57, so thank you now. I personally would rather die at 45 quick and clean, but the "dogooders" would rather see me suffer for years, so that their egos can be massaged thinking they saved another soul from a traffic death. Well to heck with you, and the life of the chicken you'll save on 05/04/05, by going vegan on International Respect a Chicken day. As for the above example that's what it is, maybe the seatbelt will save me from a brain injury, but it should be my choice to wear one. The "dogooders" need to live their life and butt out of mine.
